Wafer Ball Valve Maintenance And Installation Knowledge

Date:

Wafer Ball Valve, also known as fluoroplastic-lined corrosion-resistant valves, are manufactured by molding (or inserting) polytetrafluoroethylene resin (or processed extruded material) onto the inner wall of steel or iron valve pressure-bearing components (the same method is applicable to the lining of various pressure vessels and piping accessories) or the outer surface of valve trim. This unique resistance to highly corrosive media is utilized to create various valves and pressure vessels.

Fluorine-lined valves include diaphragm valves, globe valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, and check valves. Manufacturing technology involves the formulation and production process of the adhesive. The adhesive ensures a strong affinity between the lining adhesive and the pipe wall, resulting in excellent corrosion and scaling resistance and a long service life. This ensures the valve has both the strength of metal and corrosion resistance.

With the rapid development of modern industry, fluorine-lined valves and their various piping accessories have been rapidly adopted and promoted in various fields, including petroleum, printing and dyeing, and chemical engineering. They have demonstrated strong vitality and, as a preferred project in engineering projects, have attracted significant attention and favor from various engineering design and construction companies. They represent a promising product with great market potential.

Fluorine-lined valves are specifically designed to control corrosive or highly corrosive media. The inner surface of the valve body is coated with a variety of fluoroplastics, suitable for various operating temperatures and fluid pipelines. They offer high strength and excellent corrosion resistance.

Fluorine-lined valves operate in harsh environments, often exposed to toxic and harmful chemicals, highly corrosive acids, bases, and organic solvents. Improper use can result in economic losses and serious consequences. Proper use and maintenance of valves can extend the service life of fluorine-lined valves, prevent accidents, and ensure the normal operation of pipelines. Therefore, Wuxi Clariant Pneumatic Ball Valve Manufacturer has compiled key points to note during installation, repair, and maintenance:

1. The flange cover of a fluorine-lined valve should not be opened unless the valve is ready for connection to the pipeline. Otherwise, the PTFE flange surface may be scratched or deformed due to temperature differences or foreign matter, potentially affecting the seal. If the cover is removed for inspection, it must be quickly replaced after inspection to protect the PTFE flange surface.

2. When connecting fluorine-lined valves to pipelines, separate gaskets are generally not used. However, when connecting to flanges made of dissimilar materials (such as metal), appropriate gaskets should be used to protect the PTFE flange surface.

3. If a fluorine-lined valve leaks during system operation at elevated temperatures, first cool the system to room temperature before investigating the cause and performing repairs.

4. High-temperature welding is not permitted on fluorine-lined valves to avoid permanent damage to the lining.

5. During installation, tighten the flange nuts evenly and symmetrically in sequence, applying appropriate torque.

a. If leakage occurs on the flange sealing surface and the nut at the leaking location is already tightened, loosen the nut at the leaking location half a turn and then re-tighten it on the opposite side with the same torque.

b. If the leak is still not stopped after the above steps, inspect the PTFE flange surface for any indentations or scratches. Use fine gauze paper or cloth to smooth them out and reconnect.

6. Fluorine-lined valves should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated room. Stacking is strictly prohibited.

7. Repaired fluorine-lined valves must be tested and approved according to relevant standards before use before installation.

8. When manually operating a fluorine-lined valve, do not use other levers to force the valve open or close.

9. When installing fluorine-lined valves with directional requirements, ensure that the flow direction of the medium follows the direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body and ensure easy operation and maintenance.

10. During long-term storage, the sealing pair of fluorine-lined valves should be kept slightly open and separated to prevent prolonged deformation of the sealing surfaces due to pressure, which could affect sealing performance and service life.

Fluorine-lined valve installation:

1. During installation, ensure that the valve markings (such as valve type, nominal diameter, pressure rating, and material) are consistent with the intended use, and that the flow direction marking on the housing aligns with the pipe flow direction.

2. During installation, ensure the valve is installed horizontally, with the valve stem facing upward. To prevent the valve from tilting, install the valve in a natural position. Avoid excessive installation stress from the pipe, supports, etc., and do not use a handwheel to lift the valve during installation.

3. During installation, if the pipe flange sealing surfaces connecting to the fluorine-lined sealing surfaces at both ends of the valve are metal, fluorine-lined gaskets must be installed. The connecting flange sealing surface should follow the configuration shown in Figure A, not Figure B. Failure to do so will result in premature damage to the valve sealing surface and leakage.

4. If the pipeline is strong enough to withstand the weight and operating torque of the valve, no support is required for this valve. Otherwise, dedicated support points should be provided for fluorine-lined valves.

5. After installation, when pressure testing the system or pipeline, the valve must be in the fully open position.
